It was – then it wasn’t – then it was

A City Red Streetlite in Southampton City Centre
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Following on from the on – off cancellation of a competing small operators service East of Southampton, First Southampton’s City Red 9 service has won a reprieve from Mobday 31st October.

Under the arrangement with Southampton City Council, the service will run for three months initially. The route will vary slightly, with the City Red 13 already diverted via Merry Oak and the new service running via Peartree Avenue.

Whether this is a change due to the withdrawal of competing services, negotiations with the Sholing users group, or others I do not know; but the people of Sholing will be happy.

The timetable for the new City Red 9 is available on the First Southampton website.

  1. Be interesting after 3 months if SCC put service out to competative tendering & not what I presume is a de-minimis contract for the short term
