I was – over the course of a week – writing this nice short piece of the things that had happened over the last few weeks. It has been a long few weeks and I thought this would be a quick and easy bit. You can see the easy bits on the July roundup; but this is all about beach-ball swoopy stripy company.
Let’s start with the easy bits of the more complicated post at Stagecoach South:
Stagecoach in Portsmouth
At Farlington Depot, Stagecoach Portsmouth are making a number of changes to the 37 and 38 services out of Havant.
There are various changes to the schools based trips, which include 37X, 637 and 737. With the 37X service registration being cancelled, it may become a 38 as the notes on the cancellation say it is merging into the 38 documents.
Stagecoach South have also taken schools service 654 Hambledon to Havant from First Solent and 652 from Hambledon to Cowplain School.
Stagecoach in Winchester
- Timetable changes on service 4 – slight reduction in service
- Service 7 for Sparsholt College has a single college day change
- Schools trips on service 461 are withdrawn.
- Minor change on service 61 withdraws one trip
- Although the service 64X is being withdrawn, there are additional peak services being introduced.
- There are changes to service 66 between Winchester and Romsey to partially replace the cancelled school trip on service 662.
- Minor changes to service 68 between Salisbury and Winchester
- There are changes to service 69 between Peter Symonds College and Fareham to reflect changes at the college
Stagecoach in Basingstoke
- Service 11 to in Oakley will now only run one-way around the loop.
- Schools services will also have a route change in the afternoons.
Timetable Recast in Andover
Now as an aside, Andover depot are running a number of Basingstoke duty boards at the moment for service 32. I will admit that I do not know the background to this, however information on Facebook would suggest that this is a short term, 5 week arrangement.
There are a number of service changes lodged for 1st September though, which ties in with the start of the new school year. Something might – in my mind – be amiss though.
The rest of the Andover network appears to be having a significant overhaul. Lets start with a current overview of the Andover network to try and work things out.
This is the Andover Map prior to 1st September with apologies to Stagecoach South for stealing it:
The network has not changed particularly much over the last few years. Roger French was in Andover a couple of years ago and is certainly much more authoritarian on reviewing the network. Essentially though, I think we need a table to list the changes that appear to be coming:
Existing service that are changing:
- The evening diversion to service 1 via East Anton is being moved to service X and all trips will run via the King Arthurs Way and the full loop at Cricketers Way (replacing part of service 6).
- Monday to Saturday will be reduced to Every 20 Minutes (and the hourly evening service will run later)
- Sunday service remains Every 30 Minutes
- Service 9 is reduced to three trips on weekdays
- Service 12 via Anton Road will be reduced to run 3 trips on Monday to Friday only and the Saturday service is cancelled
- Service 15 will lose the contra-flow ‘direct’ elements of the timetable out of Andover in the morning and back to Andover in the afternoon.
- Service 17 to Over Wallop has a timetable variation.
- Services to Whitchurch and Basingstoke on service 76 will no longer run via London Road. They will instead run direct via Churchill Way to Walworth Business Park
- Monday to Saturday these will run the full route every 30 minutes (extending the Whitchurch – Basingstoke short trips)
- Sunday will run hourly
- Middle Wallop to Salisbury service 87 will gain additional trips on Saturdays between Lopcombe Corner and Salisbury
Services that are changing significantly
New Service 2 replaces parts of service 6, 10 and 76.
It will run via London Road, Walworth Road and past Finkley Down Farm into Augusta Park. It will then loop East Anton in a similar way to the existing service 6.
- Mon to Sat The service will run every 20 Minutes until 1800 (half hourly until 2300)
- Sunday The service will run every 30 minutes until 2000
Service 3 is extended and diverted.
It will replace the P20 and parts of service 11. There are essentially 2 separate services which make up the new service 3. Both routes will run from Picket Twenty via London Road to the Town Centre and Artists Way and then:
- Variation A will run to Charlton
- Variation B will run to Saxon Fields
Monday to Saturdays will run hourly on each variation (every 30 minutes on the common section)
Evenings and Sundays will run hourly between Andover and Picket Twenty only
Service 4 is extended
The service will replace parts of 13/13a from Picket Piece via Walworth Road and replaces service 10 in River Way to Andover Town Centre. It will then run via the existing service 4 to Charlton Road and Drove Estate.
The service will be reduced to hourly Monday to Saturday
Service 13 will now only run to Vigo Road and Colenzo Drive on three shoppers trips only, replacing the existing service 13 and 13a.
There is a New Service 75 which will run between Andover, Sutton Scotney and Winchester. This is a sort of replacement for service 86 between Whitchurch and Winchester. The 86 is reduced to run on college trips only. This replaces service 85.
Services that are cancelled
As far as I can tell, services 6, 10, P20, 85 are all cancelled as a result.
Other Changes
Services affecting, but not within Andover directly, are also changing in the area:
- Tidworth to Salisbury services 66/67/X67/667 has a revised timetable
There is also a change to the Activ8 service between Andover and Salisbury. I can not see a service change lodged on Salisbury Reds yet, nor a cancellation; but Stagecoach South have. Without seeing the Salisbury Reds timetable changes, the changes will not make sense yet.
The Stagecoach in Andover part of the service will increase from every hour to every 40 minutes. To me, this would suggest the timetable will be enhanced from a joint half-hourly service to every 20 minutes, but at the moment there are timetable clashes all over the place. Sunday service don’t look to be changing from hourly.
Finally…. lets try and modify the Andover Map….
Don’t hate me……
