From Newport to Ryde, the buses roll,
Southern Vectis with festive soul,
Through Cowes and Sandown, bright and merry,
Delivering cheer on every ferry!
Across the Island’s winding ways,
Buses dance through Christmas days,
From Ventnor’s coast to Freshwater’s scene,
A Yuletide journey, red and green!
I think the AI I am using is pretty much using the same algorithm each time in a lazy sense. You know AI is only as good as the information uploaded to it for training. Anyway; Southern Vectis promoted their Christmas service information to the front page, I would not want to suggest that it is anything other than coincidence and the reponsible party in no way read it on the last post.
It’s quite a quick round up as well, because the Isle of Wight basic seems to run it’s own little bus service ecosystem and does things differently. It will be interesting to see what Santa has in his sack from the cash injection expected over the next 12 months courtesy of BSIP.
Monday 23rd December and Tuesday 24th December
A normal Monday and Tuesday service will operate on both days, with no early close down or service curtailment. Clearly that means none of the Isle of Wight drivers are helping Santa do deliveries this year!
Christmas Day – Wednesday 25th December
Southern Vectis will run its fairly extensive timetable of Christmas Day special services. I have always been impressed with the number of buses that traverse the Island and it is good to see across the brand as well as with Bluestar and morebus on the mainland.
As usual, a PDF of the timetables is available from the Southern Vectis website.
- Service 1 runs hourly between Cowes and Newport from roughly 0900 to 2300
- Service 3 runs hourly between Newport, Ventnor, Shanklin and Ryde roughly between 0800 and 2300
- Note – Some normal stops are not served, and there may be a diversion in place
- Service 5 has 5 round trips between Newport, Osbourne and East Cowes
- Service 7 has 5 round trips between Newport, Shalfleet, Yarmouth and Totland
- Service 9 runs hourly between Ryde and Newport – alternating between the Medina and the Wootton routes.
Boxing Day – Thursday 26th December
A full Sunday timetable will run on Boxing Day
Friday 27th December to Monday 30th December
The full appropriate timetable will run on each day.
New Years Eve – Tuesday 31st December
A full Friday timetable will operate on New Years Eve, which includes the normal Friday night night bus timetable on it’s usual routes.
Service 32 will additionally operate, as it would normally do on a Tuesday.
New Years Day
A full Sunday timetable will operate on Wednesday 1st January.
From Thursday 2nd January
A normal full timetable will resume. Presumably on 2nd and 3rd January this will be a non-school day timetable as schools will still be enjoying their winter break.
