April 2025: Stagecoach Portsmouth timetables

A Stagecoach single deck bus in Portsmouth
Reading Time: 6 minutes

Last week I posted about the changes to the Stagecoach South “Havant and Greater Portsmouth” timetable changes on 6th April, that are bringing in a raft of split and new services to Havant and the City of Portsmouth. There were some concerns and questions about the changes on social media, particularly the local Facebook groups, and some people asked me about the new timetables and whether they were available.

Firstly an apology, I promised on one group on Friday night that as the timetables had started appearing I would summarise them over the weekend. Work, family and a rabbit hole of “how does that website manipulate the API data to create a PDF timetable?” and the whole summary flew out the window.

This website started off as a hobby, it’s getting bigger each time I have an idea.

Timetables are now available on the Stagecoach Website:

The New Portsmouth Network from Sunday 6th April

The first thing to point out is that Stagecoach South have already helpfully placed new Network Map on their announcement of the service changes. As I have not asked Stagecoach South for permission to re-publish it, you can download it for yourself directly from Stagecoach on this link. I don’t fancy a court summons to Chichester for copyright infringements… I have enough (non-criminal) courts I am dealing with already.

You might want to also see the Stagecoach South announcement for timetable changes and my article from last week on the changes.

Service 18 – Paulsgrove – North End – Fratton – Southsea

A map of changes to the Stagecoach South 18 in Portsmouth. It shows the revised service not calling at The Circle or Palmerston Road

So let’s start with the easy one. Service 18 has a route change taking it away from Victoria Road South, The Circle and the south end of the Palmerston Road shops. It will now pass the north end of Palmerston Road shops in both directions, Portsmouth High School and end at Clarence Pier.

The timetable also gets an enhancement with buses running more often throughout the day Monday to Saturday.

Service 19 Leigh Park – Farlington – Commercial Road

I will leave this blank for now. I did see a timetable for the new service 19 but it has since disappeared.

I am not sure if that is an issue with the main database that the third-party websites use, or whether Stagecoach South have removed it for an error or change.

You can find an interactive route map from Stagecoach South (on Google Maps) below:

Service 20 – Havant – West Leigh – QA – Stamshaw – Gunwharf

The 20 also have a slight route change in that it will no longer go into Havant ASDA / Walmart / Hypermarket (remember those days) because of congestion and delays. This has not been well received by some of those living in West Leigh, so we will have to see if this is changed again in a few months.

Service 20 will gain an evening and Sunday service though, so those doing West Leigh

Service 21 – Gunwharf – Anchorage Park

In additional news to what I previously posted last week on service 21, good news for some in that there is going to be a late night Friday and Saturday service. I would presume this is being paid for by Portsmouth City Council.

The core change of service 21 is that it will now only run between Portsmouth Gunwharf and Anchorage Park. This is a change that has annoyed some, and hopefully when the new service 19 timetable appears (or re-appears) we will find some middle ground.

The frequency of the Portsmouth to Anchorage Park section of the route was every 10 minutes during the day, so there is a slight reduction overall if we take the “short trip” route in isolation.

Service 22 – Warren Park Circular

There was more disappointment that service 23 is to be split into two separate routes most of the day. With the new bus fare cap being £3 Stagecoach South have also opted not to offer through tickets, presumably because the equivalent day ticket will work out cheaper.

Before I get pounced upon, I do not have a fare table for the Havant area, so there might be some fares that a return trip will be less than the £6 cap price.

I wanted to split this into two separate tables, the ones that are “just 22” and the ones which in the evenings run through to or from Southsea as a 23. The timetable is not that kind I am afraid.

Service 23 – Havant – Cosham – Gunwharf – Southsea

So what’s left of the 23 is the Havant – Portsmouth – Southsea section. For those that do not cross the 22 / 23 service boundary there will be very little change in terms of the frequency of the service from a glance across the two side-by side.

I will also try to work out which 23’s will continue to Warren Park as a 22 (through tickets not available) (I wonder how many drivers will forget who only has a single….)

I hope I have made some sense

The missing Stagecoach South 19 timetable is a bit of a mystery and I will keep an eye on the data feeds over the next few days. The rest of the timetables I hope make some sense though, and it has taken me almost two hours to transcribe it, so I will definitely be trying to automate a better way. If anyone has any ideas on the best way to do about it then please let me know!

As soon as Stagecoach formally publish the timetables (which you can guarantee will now be tonight) I will update both posts. These changes take effect on Sunday 6th April, with Stagecoach South’s promotion of the changes here on their website.

  1. Yes I remember the Coop Hypermarket. There was even a free shopperbus from places as far away as Hayling Island & Petersfield
