Changes at Stagecoach – 04 January to 09 January

A Stagecoach in Portsmouth bus
Reading Time: 4 minutes

In the last few days, Stagecoach have confirmed their service changes in light of both the schools being open (or closed) and the fact that everyone in the South remains in Tier 4. The weekday guide should only be assumed correct for this week as things remain very fluid in the schools and tiers.

There are significant changes to some services, especially at the weekend, on the basis that most people will need to leave home for essential purposes on a Monday to Friday basis. This means that if you are travelling on a Saturday or Sunday, you must make sure you are checking the timetables:

Portsmouth

On weekdays, Stagecoach services in Portsmouth will run to a non-schoolday timetable, with one exception.

Portsmouth College service 621 will operate as required by the college. One can only presume that the college will be notifying students to those details.

Weekends

Saturday and Sunday services are largely going to run on an hourly, or half-hourly basis through the daytime and early evening. Almost all services will start their final journeys before 2200.

  • Two-Hourly: Services 30 & 31 (which combine to be hourly), 37
  • Hourly: Services 20, 21, 39, 700 (Portsmouth to Chichester section)
  • Half-Hourly: Services 23
  • Note: The 20 and 37 do not operate on Sundays

Although the frequencies are the same, there are a few variations to individual timetables. This takes into account the fact that the 20 does not operate on a Sunday for example, and this interworks with other services as part of the drivers day.

Winchester

On weekdays, Stagecoach services in Winchester will run to a non-schoolday timetable.

You should also know that if you use service 64 between Winchester and Alton. There is a slight change to the timetable due to the Contraflow in the Morn Hill & Ladycroft area. This means buses will run slightly later from the area to their destination.

Saturdays

Saturday and Sunday services are largely going to run on an hourly, or half-hourly basis through the daytime and early evening. Almost all services will start their final journeys before 2100.

  • Half-Hourly on services 1, 3 and 5
  • Hourly on services 64, 66 and The Spring
  • 2 – Hourly on service 69
  • Less frequently or irregular timetables on all other services

The Saturday timetables for Winchester can be downloaded here.

Sundays

Sunday services will not change, with the exception of service 5. This will run every 30 minutes between town and Badger Farm, and the timetable is here.

Andover

Services in Andover have already been hit by a small coronavirus outbreak in the town, and a number of drivers either tested positive or had to self-isolate just before Christmas.

Andover is the exception though where there will be a small increase to services as drivers return to work from isolation, compared to the Christmas and New Year period.

Weekdays & Saturdays

Most town services will run at an hourly frequency, with the exception of service 1 to King Arthur Way & Roman Way which will run Every 20 Minutes and Service 12 to the south of the town will run 4 trips a day instead of 5.

Most town services are finished by 2000. Only an extra service 1 at 2035 runs after this.

Running out of town, services to further afield are largely less frequent. Many timetables will only run a few days per week and you really must check the timetable below.

Joint operated service Activ8 with Salisbury Reds will run the half-hourly full length service, but the shorter journeys to Tidworth will not operate. The normal timetable (where all SR – Salisbury Reds times are shown and will run) is here, but the specific Stagecoach services that ONLY RUN are here.

You can find this weeks other timetables HERE.

Basingstoke & North Hampshire

Basingstoke will run a non-schools timetable.

Weekends

  • Less frequent: 4, Service 9 in Alton, 10, 14, 15, 17

Service 13 runs partly hourly, and partly 2-hourly due to the length and variations of it’s route.
Service 76 run from the Andover depot, will resume it’s half-hourly service in the Basingstoke area as the Whitchurch ‘short’ services will resume. Sunday services remain hourly, as previously.

Where Sunday services operate, most of the differences are that services start around 0800 rather than 0500, but finish at the same early times.

Weekday timetables are only good for this week!

With the ever changing viewpoint on schools, the debate between Government departments, teaching unions and the science; Stagecoach are keen to stress that these weekday timetables will probably change next week.

As has been the last few weeks though, anything can change at any time, dependent on the COBR meeting of the day, the decision of individual schools and teachers, and more.
