First Southampton have substantial service changes planned for Sunday 30th October. Now, these changes have been advised from a number of sources and there is no smoke without fire; but I have not seen “planned changes” announcements from Empress Road.
Now as with reversals to cancellations in Fareham, anything is possible, so without an announcement we can not say this will definitely happen. Along with campaigners like Claire Whyte (who still does not like me) trying to get First Southampton to negotiate revisions to the revisions; I am disappointed that City Red have slashed some routes that back in the day were very busy.
Either Way – First Southampton’s social media team in Sheffield (or is it Leeds) are not confirming anything, despite cancellations being registered on VOSA. As I said to Claire though (which is why she doesn’t like me), VOSA is a Government department so can only be deemed as mid-speculation and rumour at best!
So take these changes with a little salt:
[Disclaimer: This should be classed as rumour and speculation, albeit I have seen screenshots of claimed new timetables]
Service 1: Calmore reduced to hourly and interworked with service 13
Service 2: Weston – City – Millbrook gains some peak time trips to run Weston – City – General Hospital as service 2a
Service 3: Thornhill – City – Lords Hill increases weekday frequency
Service 7: Townhill Park reduced frequency across the whole week (every 15 / 20 minutes)
Service 8: Hedge End to Southampton service extended to Shirley and General Hospital
Service 9: Sholing service WITHDRAWN
Service 13: Harefield reduced to hourly and interworked with the 1. The 13 will also have a diversion via Merry Oak replacing parts of the 9…. does that mean it is now following the 13a?
The 13 will also be rerouted within Southampton City via West Quay and Central Bridge to interwork with the 1 (thanks Sam Matthews – knew I had forgotten something)

The 13 is due to be rerouted via West Quay and central bridge not via city college and primark
Thanks Sam. Knew I had forgotten something and it was the revised departure to connect with the 1.
When First took over from Citybus in the late 90`s,they had a really extensive network of services across Southampton, now look at what is left after all these years of savage cuts and hang your heads in shame First.
