News Updates

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A few updated have hit my weekly aggregator this morning that will bring good news, especially to some people using buses in Southampton.

You may remember the outrage that was Hampshire County Council removing pre-0930 travel for Disabled National Concessionary Bus Pass users on weekdays. Over in Southampton, the City Council have decided that for Southampton’s disabled bus users the current 0900 validity time will be removed and pass holders will be able to travel for free at any time.

The Daily Echo has the story for those that want to read the various reactions from Councillors and residents. Personally I think this is a good thing and I hope Hampshire County Council takes note!

Electric Buses for Stagecoach in Portsmouth

Following £1.8 million in funding from Hampshire County Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, Stagecoach South is planning for 77 new electric buses to join the fleet at Farlington depot in Portsmouth.

The money is earmarked for Stagecoach to install the infrastructure needed at the depot to charge and maintain the battery-fleet rather than directly paying for the buses – which makes sense as then the investment is literally set in concrete to stay in Hampshire.

Let’s hope someone has checked the weight limit on the Hayling Island bridge, as unlike Aldershot there is no diversionary route if the buses are too heavy.

Correction: morebus service changes

During the week I updated you with morebus and their 23rd May service changes. There were far more changes than I noted because frankly…. I did not see things like this:

Major route changes affect the 20 and the 33, there is a loss of evening bus funding from BCP Council and more. The original post has been updated now!
