Touring the New Forest – Open Top style

Reading Time: 2 minutes

With the summer fast approaching (or already been and gone) regular special services on the New Forest Tour are already slated for a return.

The routes are planned to run for eleven weeks from 1st July to 17th September and as far as I can see, there are no significant route changes across the three coloured routes.

The New Forest Tour map, found on the morebus New Forest Tour webpage

The timetables have been registered for a change as well, however at the same time I can not see anything significant in terms of frequency changes. Certainly, because I do not have a copy of last years timetable to hand, the haphazard ‘sometimes hourly – sometimes an hour and a quarter’ type timetable rings a bell.

Maybe the run out from Totton is slightly different this year; it’s not as though there is a depot anywhere nearer that can store a few open toppers! Never understood why they are not based at Lymington(?)

The Prices for the New Forest Tour day tickets are:

  • Adults £19.50
  • Children £11.00
  • Seniors £16.50
  • Group Ticket ( Up to 5 people) £49
  • Two and Five Day tickets are also available

If you are travelling from Southampton, you can also enjoy a free ferry ticket across from Southampton to Hythe on the Blue Funnel Ferry service. The Hythe Ferry connects to the New Forest Tour’s Green route. Well, I presume so as it is advertised on the morebus New Forest Tour, but it is not on the Hythe Ferry website as far as I can see.

Note: If you buy your tour ticket and then want to use the Hythe Ferry; I understand the offer to be a 20% discount when you buy your ferry ticket at Hythe.

If you are travelling from around the area by bus, then Bluestar and morebus also offer a free trip to and from the tour on a number of services including:

  • Morebus X1, X2, X3, X6 from Dorset & Wiltshire
  • Bluestar 6, 8 and 9 from Southampton
  • Morebus 112 from within the New Forest

All the information is available on the New Forest Tour microsite, which is found on the morebus website.

  1. With respect, I think you need to recalculate the number of weeks. I make it 11 weeks and one day, making it two weeks longer than last year! Every year, it seems to register a change of timetable, but it only ever amounts to a tweak between timing points. Lymington is at full capacity, which is why it is run by three separate depots.
