The featured image at the top of the post was something that I forwarded on Twitter and Facebook recently, which may indicate that I have been out of the country. It’s green though, and I will talk green very shortly.
It’s a bit of a bits and pieces post again with roundups of some things that have been going on or are about to happen.
Fares Up at GoAhead
Alongside a number of route revisions in the Southampton area this weekend, there have also been some fares revisions to talk about across all of the Go South Coast brands.
The various brands remind everyone that the £2 flat fare for single trips is still a thing, I would make an assumption that when this ends though single fares will have increased at some point. There is no note saying that this has happened though. These increases (unless noted) took effect on 1st September.
For period tickets, as a general summary:
- Bluestar day tickets increased by up to 50p
- Period tickets also increase – monthly ones by up to £4
- Paper based adult weekly and longer tickets can only be purchased at bus shops
- Paper-period tickets are still more expensive than app tickets
- Morebus day tickets increased by up to 50p
- Period tickets increase – monthly ones by up to £4
- The adult 90 day m1/m2 pass has been withdrawn
- Southern Vectis single and transfer fares increase by 10p
- Rover, multi-bundle and Freedom tickets increased on 1st September
- Rover+Breezer tickets will increase on 4th November
- The £7 nightrider ticket will not change
Portsmouth City Centre Bus Lane
The bus lane that feels like it has taken years to build in Portsmouth City Centre is now open. I am likely to be in Portsmouth at some point in the next week or so, hopefully with half an hour to go take a look. If you want you can see the vague route that the buses take on BusTimes.
Bournemouth Nightbus
morebus are re-introducing Friday and Saturday night bus services across Bournemouth and Poole from Friday 20th September (in time for the University returning?) across familiar and new routes. All three routes will run hourly.
Buses along the route of the m1 between Poole, Bournemouth and the Hospital will be numbered N1.
Buses along the route of the m2 between Poole, Bournemouth and Southbourne will be numbered N2. From Southbourne, the buses will run to Tuckton, Christchurch and Two Riversmeet.
New Route N5 will run from Bournemouth to Bournemouth Station, Charminster and Ensbury Park along the service 5 route. It will then run via Boundary Road to the Talbot University Campus.
Morebus have provided a helpful map on their announcement.
There are also other timetable changes taking effect on Monday 16th September on both morebus and morebus operated Unibus services.
Mortons sold on
Covered with a bit more detail on the excellent Hants and Surrey Bus Blog; Mortons Travel has been sold by National Express Group to Rambler Group Holdings.
Mortons was originally purchased by Lucketts Travel based in Fareham, who themselves were acquired by National Express.
First Wessex back to low season
The winter timetable was reintroduced across the Weymouth based Jurassic services. The X50 and X52 have gone back into hibernation and the X51/X53 return to provide an hourly service over common sections of route between Weymouth, Bridport and Axminster.
The X54 also moves to a 2-hourly timetable across a revised shorter route between Weymouth, Wool and Wareham. The service to Poole section of the route now consigned to history.
There are also changes lodged for later in September across some of the town routes.
Andover service changes
We have also covered a number of bus service changes that have taken place in Andover this weekend, with a new route network included.

First cannot yet say when the X54 (Weymouth-Wareham) reverts to winter times. The X50 ended on Aug 31 but bustimes.org has it back on their website continuing through September, having briefly removed it after I told them (twice) via their Contact form that it had ended.
The bus companies should return to having one price for period passes,to make it simpler for staff and customers, rather than different prices for using the app, paper tickets and there used to be another price ,if you brought it on the Key card. You don`t have this dual pricing in shops, pubs and for buying rail season tickets-so why on buses?
VOSA is showing a cancellation on X11 and X12 from 25/10 (X11) and 24/10 (X12)
VOSA has a cancellation for the X11/X12 from late October. Assuming it might have something to do with the new Hill Lane service?
Thanks for highlighting this. I have not seen anything for Hill Lane, although I have not been around as much as I would have liked.
Bluestar 21 and 22 to be replacement services
I desperately need to do an overarching “Stuff I missed during the time I was worrying about other stuff I missed” post…. don’t I!
The new Hill Lane service will be operated by Bluestar from the 28th October 2024
Bus Routes to be numbered 21 and 22
Hi, what are the new routes and the frequencies please?
Not sure what is going on with the Hill Lane route, the tender shows it was awarded (and above shows October as being the start) the Daily Echo is reporting from a council meeting that it has been delayed until January.
I saw that article appear as well.
I will reach out to SCC in a bit and see what is going on, because the quotes I saw were that the tender was not “commercially viable” which is a bit idiosyncratic.
