How’s the headache? Did you see in the New Year with a bang, or spend it fast asleep? I was unfortunately the latter, having been up since 3am New Years Eve getting ready and going to work, but it is not a major event in this household and we have never really been party animals!
Some of you will want to be out and about today though, whether it is for work or pleasure. In many town centres there is only hospitality open with shopping centres closed and supermarkets giving their staff the day off. Lets see what buses are running though.
No Service on First or Stagecoach*
There is no service today on any routes across the FirstGroup network. First Wessex, First City Red and First Southampton do not usually run a service on New Years Day.
Stagecoach South are also not running services today.
- * The only exception is that the Hovertravel contracted Hoverbus service around Portsmouth. This is running to a normal Sunday timetable, connecting with the normal Sunday Hovercraft service.
Bluestar
Bluestar are running a tale of two timetables across many of their services today. For some it is a “special” service (as per the Boxing Day timetables) and for others a Sunday service:
Sunday Services:
- Bluestar 1 to Chandlers Ford and Winchester
- Bluestar 2 to Eastleigh and Fair Oak
- Bluestar 4 to Romsey
- Cross-City 7 between Lords Hill, General Hospital, City, Woolston and Sholing
- Service 16 to Townhill Park
- Red Funnel contracted QuayConnect to Town Quay
Special Service:
- Bluestar 9 to Totton, Hythe and Fawley
- Bluestar 12 to Totton and Calmore (note – no Bluestar 11 today)
- Cross-City 17 between Weston, City, Shirley, General Hospital and Adanac Park
- Cross-City 18 between Thornhill, Bitterne, City, Shirley and Millbrook

Like their sister company, more are running a mixture of Sunday and special services across New Years Day.
Sunday Services:
- Poole service 4 to Broadstone and Wimborne
- Poole services 5 & 6 to Canford Heath
- Poole services 8 & 9 to Hamworthy and Upton,
- Poole service 14 to Alderney, West Howe, Kinson and Royal Bournemouth Hospital
- Breezer 40 to Corfe Castle, Wareham and Swanage
- Bournemouth town service 13 to Winton, Ferndown and Wimborne
- Poole to Bournemouth services 16 & 17
- Longer distance services X3 Bournemouth to Ringwood and Salisbury and X8 Poole to Blandford
Special Service:
- “The Original more” m1 & m2 between Poole, Bournemouth and Castlepoint/Southbourne
- Breezer 50 running every 2 hours between Bournemouth, Sandbanks and Swanage.
Southern Vectis
The Isle of Wight operator is running a full Sunday service on all routes.
Southampton Mini Link
Southampton Mini Link will be running the 13a today between Southampton City Centre, Woolston, Merry Oak and Harefield.
Xelabus
Eastleigh’s green operator are running Sunday services across the whole network today.
Yellow Buses
Bournemouth’s independent operator is running a special service on these routes only:
- Service 1 1a & 1b to Pokesdown, Southbourne and Christchurch
- Service 2 hourly to the Hospital, Castlepoint and Kinson
- Service 3 every 30 minutes to Castlepoint and the Hospital
- Service 4 hourly to Winton and Castlepoint only
- Service 5 & 5a to East & West Howe and Kinson
- Service 6 every 30 minutes to Wallisdown and hourly onwards to Bearwood
